Mable's Mission is a Florida-based 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to giving shelter dogs a second chance at life.

PROGRAMS.

Rescue

We are committed to giving every animal a chance to thrive. We place all of our rescues in foster homes, where they can receive vetting and any required medical treatment, training for any behavioral issues, and most importantly, the love and care they need to flourish.

Advocacy

Our advocacy program partners with no-kill shelters to sponsor their senior dogs and promote senior dog adoptions.

Education

we focus on educating the public about rescue work, the challenges faced by dogs in shelters, and the importance of spaying and neutering. We also work towards ending the stigma against bully breeds and other dogs that are often unfairly labeled as "dangerous."

Urgent foster needed for 2 stray dogs in WPB! All other rescues contacted have closed their intake due to the storm. PBCACC is at capacity and they’d be at risk for euthanasia so the Good Samaritan that found them doesn’t want to bring them there. We need HELP!

We need pledges for their medical AND a foster. They are dog friendly but we don’t know anything else about them. The male is intact and we can only assume the female is not spayed. They will need to get these surgeries ASAP! Please, we need a foster and pledges for both of them.

A previous foster and adopter of ours found them on the side of the road covered in dirt and filth. We don’t know how long they’ve been on the streets. We need a placement for them by Friday or they have nowhere to go.

Urgent foster needed for Marty McFly! He is a dog-friendly senior boy. Here are some things about him!

Marty is an 8 year old black mouth cur mix. He is an incredibly smart, loyal and fun dog. He’s very trained and has his Canine Good Citizen certification (CGC). He thinks he’s a lap dog and LOVES to snuggle. Plus, he’s a terrific guard dog! He loves hiking, kayaking, the beach, going on boats, is a great travel companion and is always up for an adventure.

Marty’s an athletic dog who has multiple titles in barn hunt, loves the agility course and has graduated basic obedience, advanced obedience, focus proofing and beginner & intermediate agility. He loves playing with his doggy sister, swimming, fetching, chasing squirrels, walks, playing with other dogs at daycare, and will do anything for a treat. Tricks? He knows them all! He’s also content with just 1 walk a day and a comfy place to nap.

The only things he doesn’t love are cats, small critters, fireworks and thunder.

The “Watch Me” Method is an amazing way to train your dog to focus on you. If you can get your dog to focus on you on command, you can redirect them from distractions or triggers.

Remember, that your dog respects and loves you. They want to please and impress you. Be sure to understand that and give your dog the positive reinforcement and encouragement they need to succeed.

Mable’s Mission and @mermaidandbearpetconcierge are partnering for our first Hurricane Relief Donation Drive for some of the animal shelters and areas affected by Hurricane Helene.

Jefferson County Humane Society’s @wolfcreek_pet_adoption is our Florida beneficiary through our Amazon Wishlist. We will also have shipments transported by @25uniteddisasterrelief to the affected areas in the Asheville/Banner Elk areas. Items will be distributed to shelters and pet owners in need. Our most pressing item is food and we can accept all unopened food and treats AND gently used towels and dog beds.

We closed our intake about a week ago because we are very short on funds and have 6 more spay/neuters to cover and not enough money to do it.

This morning we got a call about a dog set to be euthanized at PBCACC. 7 years old, dog-friendly, and heart worm positive. We were in no financial position to save this dog. Luckily, a financial sponsor came forward to cover the cost of his HW treatment AND Stacey from @operationhomewardbound pledged $500 towards his care. Because of these generous donations, we are able to save this this dog’s life!

This pup is named Tyler. He was found as a stray in Boynton Beach and then recently given a deadline at PBCACC. He is now SAFE and decompressing in foster. The already has a vet appt scheduled near the foster’s house to begin his HW treatment.

Adopt Greyson! This 8 month old boy is dog-friendly, cat-friendly, and kid-friendly! He is goofy, sweet, and very playful. He’s a catch and we have no idea how he hasn’t been adopted yet. He loves to play and we have found that he also loves to go swimming! He is the perfect adventure pup.

He is about 55lbs right now and is expected to get between 60-70lbs.

It’s National Puppy Mill Awareness Day which makes it the perfect opportunity to educate yourself on puppy mills in the US. These dogs are kept in small crates, living in their own urine and feces. Puppy mill owners provide the most basic of care, just to be able to skate around the law. It’s disgusting and heartbreaking.

The data from @humanesociety and @bestfriendsanimalsociety show us exactly how we can come together to make a difference for these dogs.

Pumpkin Pupdate:

It’s a miracle that the Dr. decided not to operate immediately. In most Tibial Tuberosity Avulsions, surgery is required. He did a few tests and since the broken off bone is not moving freely within her leg, he wants to give her body a week to try to heal itself. Surgery may still be in the cards but for right now she is essentially on bed rest.

Even without the surgery, she will have a 6 week recovery. This will encompass multiple rounds of imaging, physical therapy, and meds.

Thank you to everyone for your support and your donations. Your donations have allowed her to get the treatment she needs so far. Imaging and consults are not cheap and we appreciate every dollar donated towards her care.

We will find out if she needs the surgery on Wednesday. Fingers crossed her body is healing in injury on its own.

Moose was saved from the PBCACC euth list after being flagged for his behavior. He was overwhelmed, stressed, jumpy, and hard to handle. No rescues wanted him and we were told he wasn’t worth it. This obviously did not sit well with us.

Luckily, with help of a financial sponsor, we were able to take him on as our first behavioral case. Turns out… he was not behavioral.. he was just misunderstood and stressed out. His notes made him out to be a monster that he surely was not.

An amazing family saw him and wanted to give him a chance at furever. Since the day he went home he has been thriving. Rescue takes a village and it’s not always easy to save a life. It takes everyone to come together to make things happen.

We are grateful for everyone involved in giving Moose his furever. I mean, just look how happy he is now!

Courtesy post for MDAS euthanasia list survivor Onyx and his foster mama! Onyx is between 6-8 years old, neutered, about 50lbs, and a lab mix!

“Onyx is an MDAS pup who came to me after being returned and facing a euthanasia deadline of June 4th. There were notes about an incident with a foster dog, but no one knows who initiated it. What’s clear is that Onyx gets along well with the friends he chooses. He was so lucky to find me, someone who wanted to give him a second chance. The day of our meet and greet was very emotional because it wasn’t certain if he would be available for fostering, but love found its way.

Onyx may take a little time to warm up, but once you gain his trust, he is incredibly sweet and loyal. We are currently working with a trainer to get him more comfortable around strangers. He is obedient with the commands he knows and is quite low-maintenance. He loves walks and being outside, but he’s just as happy to hang out and get some belly rubs. Onyx would thrive in a home with a yard where he can explore and play. He would do best in a home without young children and with a very submissive dog, if any (with a proper introduction). He gets along with my cockapoo just fine and is sweet towards him.

I also have a cat, but I’ve kept them separated because the cat hasn’t yet accepted him. Onyx deserves a second chance at a forever home where he can give all the love he has. Could you be the one to provide it?”

For those that have been following Poppy’s story, you know that we had to wait until her growth plates were closed before we knew whether an operation was required on her leg.

She saw the surgeon this morning and we received great news! He is so happy with her progress and healing that he does not want to operate! She’s regained use of the leg, built muscle mass, and gotten to place where it functions at about 90%. The only downside is that she can’t fully bend it but this does not affect her quality of life at all. Seriously, she runs circles around her foster brothers.

Speaking of foster brothers… Patrick and I have been fostering Poppy since the day she was pulled from the MDAS euthanasia list. We fostered her through her pregnancy, labor, motherhood, and through all of her other medical setbacks. We have absolutely fallen in love with her sweet and sassy personality, her resilience, and the relationship she’s formed with our two dogs, Jerry and Murphy.

That being said, now that she’s medically cleared, we will be officially adding her to our family❤️🐾

Tom & Jeri, the 2 pups found on the side of the road in Miami, finally both made it to foster. It’s evident they have not only been neglected, but likely physically abused. They are both so sweet despite this. Jeri went right to foster in Boynton Beach and Tom stayed with us overnight while waiting for foster today. Madi and I brought Tom into the house and he wouldn’t even walk. He was so paralyzed in fear that he would just collapse to the ground. Eventually, after being introduced to her pup (Poppy’s puppy, Flax), he started to come out of his shell.

He was on track to be a totally different dog this morning. While still fearful, he felt comfortable walking outside in the grass and in the house! It was amazing to see. He would even trot after us with a wagging tail and openly seek affection and belly rubs.

We were more nervous for Jeri to enter foster without her brother. When we picked them up from the Good Samaritan, she was the one shaking and avoiding eye contact. She would not do anything but hide behind Tom. Amazingly, her foster mom sent a video of her playing with a toy today! Tom & Jeri are both starting to decompress and settle in well but have a long recovery and healing journey ahead.

When the Good Samaritan brought them to the vet on Friday, they were in bad shape and infested with ticks and fleas. We did a 4dx to test for vector-borne diseases which luckily came back negative and a CBC to see if there was anything seriously wrong with them. Both Tom & Jeri showed to be anemic and dehydrated. They also have bite wounds on them, some of Tom’s being infected. Not surprisingly at all, they also have worms. Both pups had to get IV fluids and lots of medication.

Their vet bill was $1,109 not including any of their shots or spay & neuter. If you can, PLEASE consider donating. If you can’t donate, please share. Our intake is CLOSED until we raise $3,000.

We just rescued Ken Griffey Jr. from the PBCACC euth list. This 3 year old boy was found as a stray in Boynton and then deadlined because of dermatitis and anxiety.

As soon as Ken got in the car he immediately came to seek comfort from me. He hopped himself over the center console and leaned into me for pets. Then he sat politely in the passenger seat while I held his head in my hand. He actually started to fall asleep.

We don’t know much about him yet but what I do know is that this dog is a sweetheart. He is affectionate and just wants to be loved.

He is entering foster while we get his dermatitis under control. He will be a new boy in no time!

When Patrick and I first adopted Murphy and it would start raining, he would sink down and try to tuck his head under his body. His fear was palpable. If it would be raining, he wouldn’t go outside. Even if it was dark out, he wouldn’t go outside. He would go potty in the house and then be afraid of getting in trouble.

Today is the first day he cried at the door to go out, saw it was raining, and STILL braved the storm! Not only did he brave the storm but after he went potty, he wanted to keep walking. It may not seem like a big deal, especially since most dogs don’t like rain, but this was a fear and trauma-based behavior that he overcame today.

I know other rescue moms, dads, and advocates will see how big of a step this is for Murph. I encourage you all to keep working with your dogs and continue to build the trust with them. They’re worth it!

Today we rescued 15 year old Romeo from @hstcadopt. This boy was an owner surrender and was very scared at the shelter. Luckily, an experience senior/hospice foster is willing to foster him. We don’t know yet whether he will be made available for adoption. What we do know is that this senior boy will get to live out the rest of his life in a loving home.

For those of you who don’t know, this is Mable. This dog not only changed my life, but has changed dozens of dog’s lives and even some people’s too. It’s National Dog Day so what better dog for us to honor than the girl that started it all?

I adopted her when I was 19 and she was 8. She spent her life outside, tied up with a chain. We knew this from the longtime anatomical injuries and had and the thick scar going around her entire neck. She had 1 tooth left. The rest had been broken and filed down to almost nothing, likely from trying to bite her way out of the chains.

I fell in love with her while volunteering at the shelter and knew I couldn’t leave her there. I brought her home, just as a foster at first, and it was evident she had never stepped foot inside a house. Watching her get comfortable and flourish into a goofy and loving dog was life-changing. I was blessed to have a year and a half with her before she passed away from cancer.

I started Mable’s Mission in February of 2023 because after Mable sparked this passion in me, I couldn’t continue to sit on the sidelines while dogs were left to die in shelters and on the streets.

The gratitude and love these rescue dogs have is so pure. It’s truly life-changing. My goal isn’t to just give shelter dogs a second chance at life, it’s to give people an opportunity to experience what I experienced with my Mable.
